Hire slow, fire fast
I first got the advice "hire slow, fire fast" from an old time direct marketer, Ted Nicholas. It was in relationship to hiring employees, and it is very good advice.
In fact, it is so good, I've taken to applying it to other areas of business. Let me give you a few examples:
1. List selection: be very careful selecting mailing lists, and
the instant one doesn't perform, fire it and find a better one.
2. Sales letters: when you write a sales letter, do a thorough
job. If it works, great. If not, fire it and find a better one.
Don't waste time with something that doesn't works.
3. Joint Venture partners: this is a big one, and where most
people make a mistake. Be very careful who you joint venture with, especially if you're promoting their product to your list and they're taking the money. A moron joint venture partner who abuses your list can cause a lot of damage. More than with anything else "hire" joint venture partners slow, and fire them fast.
Keep this advice in mind and you'll have a lot less emotional turmoil--and a lot more profit--in your life.
