Should you sell e-books?
When internet marketing started taking off, there was a lot of excitement about e-books. You could access them instantly, and there was no cost of delivery so you didn't have to ship anything.
People started blathering about how easy it was to get rich selling e-books, but it didn't quite work out that way.
The good news though, is it can work that way IF you understand how to purposefully use e-books.
E-books are not a stand alone money maker (they're too cheap), but they make a great front end customer acquisition product. These customers can then be sold much more expensive items using online or offline methods. You can mail to them, put them on teleseminars, and you can telemarket to them because they're buyers. You may not make any money selling the e-books, but you'll make a lot of money selling to the customers who bought the e-book.
Some people worry about people downloading the e-book and sending it to all their friends for free. While there are software programs that "lock" the e-book, those are really unnecessary when you look at the e-book as a lead generator. In fact, you should have sales material sprinkled throughout the book that send people to websites to buy other products you're selling. That way if they get it free you don't care... because the e-book actually functions as a sales pitch.
So, used properly, e-books can actually make you some serious dough. Just be sure you're using them properly.
