Are you having fun, yet?
Would you like to know what one of my big criteria for doing business with someone is? If they're a fun person to do business with. What you discover is, when your income needs are met, and you're on the path to wealth, that the opportunity for profit is not as powerful a motivator as it once was. What does become more powerful is, if you enjoy what you're doing with the people you're doing it with.
There are a set of people I love to do business with because they're bright, fun, easy to get along with people who will do what they say they're going to do when they say they're going to do it.
In addition to being joint venture partners, we're also friends.
That's an important criteria for me, because I'm not going to do business with someone who's a pain in the ass.
Why? Because I could be spending my time doing business and making money with people I know I'll have fun with. The only truly limited resource we have in this world is time, and I like to spend mine on fun, enjoyable things. I simply just will not do business with anyone who is rude, anal, politically correct, easily offended, and the guy who puts a damper on every party. Others will, I won't.
What I've found is my life is much more rewarding and I look forward to talking with my colleagues, peers, and friends. The profit is nice, but the time we spend together making it is even nicer.
Take it from me, don't do business with duds.
