The biggest secret to making money with email
A few years ago when email was fresh, novel and new, people were making fortunes simply sending out unsolicited bulk email. All you had to do was write a simple sales pitch, push a button, and money appeared in your bank account as if by magic.
Oh, how times have changed. Every marketer I know is griping about how "dead" email is, how hard it is to get delivered, all the spam, all the "blackholes," and on and on. And I agree, all these are a big pain in the butt, and I wish they'd go away. In spite of all that, however, I don't have any issues with email. Mine gets delivered (mostly), it gets opened, and it gets read while other so-called "marketer's" emails don't get a second look.
What's the difference between theirs and mine? The answer is
simple: personality and entertainment, pure and simple. See, most marketers send out "ezines" with dry "how to information" or emails everyone knows is a sales pitch (and nothing but) before they even open it. Even if the information is good, it's boring, and because it's boring it doesn't get opened or read.
I also email two times a day. Conventional internet wisdom says you can only email once a week or your customers go away. This wisdom is correct IF all you're doing is sending out boring, textbook style information, or a sales pitch.
Why can I email twice a day? Because I'm fun, entertaining, controversial, and I'm a real person. Anyone reading this can tell--I comment on current happenings (like football--sorry "Iggles" fans, your savior's going to watch from the sideline as you and your overrated quarterback get swept from the playoffs yet again--it's not too late to become a fan of America's team!), say things you're not supposed to, take real questions, and most of all tell it like it is (or how I see it). You never know what I'm going to say next--that's why people tune in, and that's the secret to making email work.
Consider this: how often does an email from a friend get "blocked?" Not very often--email from my friends always gets through. Do you get pissed if a friend emails you six times a day? No--because you enjoy hearing from them... it's fun, it's entertaining, it's REAL.
And that, my friends, is the biggest secret to email--being "real."
When you're "real" people LOOK for your emails, like they do for their friends emails. And when they look for them, and are entertained by them, they open them, they read them, and they buy from them. That's something no spammer can ever duplicate, and few marketers can either. But you can, once you understand what truly makes email work!
