Why hard times produce rich futures
I got an email the other day from a friend of mine who is just starting in her wealth building career. In her email she told me about her background, how she’d grown up in extreme poverty, and was just discovering the science of personal achievement, finally realizing that she DESERVED to be wealthy for she was providing a valuable service.
She was a bit concerned that her background might hinder her wealth building, because she had none of the perceived advantages she thought other people had. I told her not to worry, that in fact her background was the greatest gift she could have been given.
Why? Because most self made millionaires have, at one time or another, gone through periods of extreme poverty before making, then KEEPING, their fortunes.
I went through a period of it myself, living for two years in the office space of a warehouse with no shower, and no hot water, $15,000.00 in credit card debt, having only “burning desire” to get rich to my name. Turns out that was more than sufficient, as it is for every millionaire.
See, what you learn when you’re completely broke is what will allow you to become wealthy. You learn how to tap into resources that don’t require money, how to educate yourself, how to persuade without money, and a host of other things you just can’t learn when you have a lot of money. These things are what allow you to make money, and they are advantages “rich kids” just don’t have.
Kids who grow up with money learn little about how to make or keep it, nor do they learn anything about its value. When they lose it (as they often do), they have no clue about how to make it back, or how to exist without it. If you’ve been broke, made a fortune, and then lost it (as most self made millionaires have), you know you can make it back, and you know how to make it back.
The first step to being a millionaire is to be broke—if you’re there, congratulation. You’ve just taken a first step into a larger world—now it’s time to take the second step…
Let’s get to it…
